Chermol & Fishman, a law firm specializing in Social Security disability cases, offers a scholarship twice a year to assist students with their educational costs.
This scholarship is open to students who are currently enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited U.S. college or university. Community college students are also welcome to apply.
About the Disability Lawyers Chermol & Fishman: Semi-Annual College Scholarship
The Social Security disability attorneys at Chermol & Fishman have officially confirmed that they will be hosting a semester-long college scholarship. To determine the recipient of this scholarship, an essay contest will be held twice a year. The contest will be open to anyone who is currently enrolled (or will be enrolling) in an accredited U.S. college or university.
The applicant pool is not limited to undergraduate students and will also be open to community college and graduate students. The intended use of the scholarship is to fund the recipient’s purchase of necessary supplies and materials, such as textbooks, writing materials, or even a personal computer.
Although the $1000 prize is reserved for first place, second and third place winners will receive $750 and $500, respectively.
Scholarship Details:
Prize amounts: The first-place winner receives $1,000. The second- and third-place winners receive $750 and $500, respectively.
Essay requirements: Applicants must write an essay between 500 and 800 words on a specific topic. The current topic is:
“Laws aim to create a structure for society to achieve equality for all its citizens. Sometimes, those laws fail to achieve this goal. Provide contemporary examples and explore the structures, systems, and social practices that exist to handle times when laws fail to promote equality.”
How to Apply
Applications should be sent to [email protected] with essays attached in .doc or .docx file format. In the body of the email, please include the applicant’s name, phone number, and the college/university he/she will be attending.
The word “scholarship” must be included in the subject line. We will contact the winner by email and phone. If we do not hear back within seven days, the winner will forfeit his/her prize and the scholarship will be awarded to someone else. Those who are not selected to receive the scholarship are strongly encouraged to reapply the following semester. Winners are also permitted and encouraged to reapply in subsequent semesters.
Write the essay – Make sure it meets the word count and addresses the given topic.
Format it correctly – Use MLA format and provide appropriate citations.
Submit your essay – Save your essay as a .doc or .docx file. Email it to [email protected] with the subject line “Scholarship.” Please include your name, phone number, and the name of the college you plan to attend in the body of the email.
Deadlines:
Spring application: Submit by December 31.
Fall application: Submit by July 31.
Selection process:
Essays are judged on grammar, style, relevance to the topic, creativity, and strength of argument. Each criterion is scored out of a maximum of 5 points, for a total of 25 points.
Notification:
Winners will be notified by email and phone. They must respond within seven days to claim the prize. Scholarship funds are sent directly to the recipient’s educational institution.
